It's unfortunately not possible to download apps on an unsupported operating system, unless you have access to an older version of iTunes or an iOS device with a supported version of iOS. Even though the apps install fine once you have bought them.
Note: Your browser may change the ipsw-file into a zip-file. In that case, just rename it to end in .ipsw and iTunes will accept it. You can also download iOS Firmware for iPhone 3gs firmware 6.1.3 (10B329). The iPhone3gs firmware 6.1.3 may take some time to download but is a great update for the Apple iPhone 3GS.

A few months later, Apple released iOS 3.1, which added yet more features, including remote lock, ringtone downloads, Genius mixes for music, and voice control over Bluetooth. iOS 3.1.3, which came in February 2010, brought the final OS release for the original iPhone 2G and the original iPod Touch: neither would see another OS update.
There's also a new music component that stores all of your music on Apple's servers for easy downloading. Fitting with the "PC-Free" feature, you are also able to back up and restore iOS devices directly instead of with a computer. While iTunes W-Fi sync means you don't have to tether your iOS device to a computer as often, the promise of iCloud is that you won't have to tether your iOS device to a computer at all.
Multitasking. Multitasking is massively improved in iOS 7, both in interface and implementation. Double-clicking your home button now brings up full-page previews of all your current apps, not unlike webOS or Windows Phone. Although iOS still manages your apps automatically, you can close multiple apps by swiping them away. More interesting is what's going on behind the scenes, where there are two big changes. First, apps can now be triggered to download data by a push notification. That means if you get an email or IM notification, the relevant app will start downloading the new data immediately. The second change could have huge implications for battery life: the addition of automatically coalescing updates means that iOS will, without prompt, wait for the right moment to start downloading app updates and other data. It groups all of the data requests together, only triggering them when you're in good signal areas (or when you switch on your iPhone's screen), which saves on the amount of time your phone's radio needs to be working.

The online book store is accessible wireless through your iPad, iPhone and iPod touch, allowing you to purchase and download a book. If you have previously purchased it on another device, you can redownload it free of charge.
iOS 4.2.1 will automatically download and prompt user to update when they plug into a computer with iTunes 10.1 installed. The upgrade process is fairly straightforward, but you should make sure to sync your iPad or iPhone to the computer so that you have a backup in the event that anything happens.
If iTunes tells you that your current version iOS 3.2.2 is up to date, you are not alone, many users are reporting issues upgrading to iOS 4.2 and it is suggested that the update may not actually download until 10 AM Pacific.

iTunes is a free media player application available for both Mac and PC. It can be used to download and play digital music and videos providing excellent content management which allows you to organizeyour playlists and libraries to synchronize with your Apple devices such as iPod, iPhone and iPad. iTunes also includes backup tools, podcasts and TV show subscriptions and 24/7 access to the iTunes Store where you can purchase a whole range of latest digital media.Apple, Inc. purchased the SoundJam MP application in 2000 which was an mp3 player for Mac in the early days and was redeveloped to include CD burning and a simplified UI; the app was renamed to iTunes with the version 1.0 release in January 2001. A few months later version 1.1 was released, bundled with Mac OS X v10.0 it included updates to the visual effects, support for more CD burners, stability/performance improvements and multi-lingual support. iTunes 2.0 was the first version to support the original iPod. iTunes 3.0 saw the introduction of the Smart Playlist which is a clever tool that organizes music suited to your taste i.e. Jazz, pop or songs with high ratings. Version 3.0 also came with audiobook support. The music store, later renamed to the iTunes store arrived in iTunes 4.0.Video playback support was introduced in version 4.8 but was much later improved in iTunes 7.x, along with major GUI changes and better iPod syncing. Leading up to iTunes 8.0 we saw support for Apple TV and newly emerging devices such as the iPhone. Consequently in version 7.7 the iPhone and iPod touch were enabled to act as remotes for wireless iTunes control.Leading up to the release of version 10.5.3.3 in 2012 we saw support for latest versions of the iPhone and the newly emerged iPad which included Wi-Fi Syncing and much improvements to the iTunes store providing application and book downloads.iTunes 4.0 up to 7.3.2 compatible with Windows 2000/XP/Vista/7. All versions later than 7.3.2 no longer support Windows 2000; only support for XP/Vista/7.There have been a number of complaints from users concerning the fact latest versions of iTunes fail to work with certain old versions of the Mac OS. For example iTunes 10.x requires Mac OS X 10.5 or later to function, if you have a prior version iTunes 10.x will not work, which has disappointed users as iPhone 4 requires iTunes 10+ to allow for syncing; if you have an OS prior to 10.5, iTunes 10 wonOther Internet Software1by1
